At least 17 militants were killed and 10 others sustained injuries in clashes with security forces in the remote Dewazi area of Mohmand Agency, sources said on Tuesday.
Security sources said that the militants were killed when helicopter gunships targeted their hideouts on October 31 in the remote areas of Pindiali tehsil.
Sources told The Express Tribune that the militants have buried four persons in the same area, while the rest of the bodies were taken to Bajaur Agency.
Earlier, on Monday, suspected militants attacked a convoy of security forces in the Beyzai area of the Mohmand tribal region, but there were no casualties.
Security forces had launched an operation in Mohamand Agency in 2009 and later in September claimed to clear at least 80 per cent of the area of militants. However, low intensity warfare including attacks on security posts and schools is frequently reported in the agency.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday suspected militants blew up a girls primary school in the Kuz Safi area of Safi tehsil in Mohmand Agency, according to sources.
The number of destroyed schools in Mohmand Agency has reached 59 after Tuesday’s attack.
