Crime spree: Retired bank manager abducted from Hayatabad

A retired bank manager was kidnapped by armed men from Hayatabad on Tuesday, while two hand grenades were defused and a house was looted in separate incidents in the city.


According to the police, Muhammad Anwar, hailing from Shabqadar but currently residing in Hayatabad, was overpowered by armed men near his house, bundled into a car and whisked away.

An official of the police station said the kidnappers were driving a white car, adding Anwar had been abducted for ransom.

Meanwhile, six armed men broke into a house in Paharipura and stole 45,000 Saudi Riyal, Rs15,000 cash, gold, an AK-47 and a TT pistol. Police said the robbers broke into Abdur Rehman’s house and held his family hostage at gunpoint for the duration of the robbery. An FIR had not been registered till the filing of this report.

Separately, the bomb disposal unit (BDU) defused two hand grenades in Suleman Khel village. Locals spotted the explosives lying in a field and informed the police. The BDU was called to the scene and its officials neutralised both the devices.
