PESHAWAR: At least four people were killed and 11 other sustained injuries when a suicide bomber targeted an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) registration camp at Tehmash Khan Stadium, Dalazak Road on Sunday afternoon.

SSP Operation Najeebjur Rehman confirmed the four deaths and 11 injured.

“The suicide bomber fired at the Khasadar sentry and then blew himself up, killing four,” he said.

The camp was set up for IDPs from Tirah Valley in a football stadium and the 22-year-old suicide bomber entered the stadium posing as an IDP. He then detonated his jacket containing eight to nine kilogrammes of explosive material.

A mosque located inside the stadium and nearby buildings were also damaged as a result of the explosion.

Police cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence from the blast site for investigation.

The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital for medical assistance. Some of the injured are in critical condition.

According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified suicide bomber opened fire before he detonated his explosive jacket.
