KARACHI:
Renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi attended a news conference on Saturday to dispel rumours of his death which had emerged on social media.
“I’m fine and living a normal life… there is no authenticity to all fake news running on social media,” he told reporters at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). He requested the public to “not pay any heed to such unfounded claims”.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Edhi Foundation spokesperson Anwar Kazmi said that messages claiming Edhi had passed away have been making rounds on Facebook and Twitter for the past two days. “We held a press briefing to condemn such false news,” he added.
“We denounce the propaganda by our conspirators who are spreading rumors about his [Edhi’s] death. He is an international figure. If something happens to him, God forbid, we will inform everyone and will not hide anything from the public.”
Kazmi said those who wanted to disrupt Edhi Foundation’s charity work were spreading such rumours. “Edhi Sb is doing well. He goes for dialysis twice a week and also attends his office.”
The spokesman also said that Edhi’s son Faisal was already handling most of the foundation’s affairs.

Long live Honourable Edhi Sahib. May Allah bless you with health and strength.
Rumours spreading elements are probably the same elements in Karachi who don't want his charity operations to be successful and who even compete with his volunteers and threat them to snatch hides during Eid al- Azha.
May Allah protect you Edhi sahib. You are an irreplaceable asset to this nation.
@Wali: "Unbelievable to find that people have reasons to go and spread rumours, such as this one for Mr. Edhi’s health.. I find ourselves getting lower and lower each day in social, moral and ethical standards." . Rumours sell newspapers.
Our life and death is in the hands of our Creator (swt) who created us in the first place. We all are destined to go back whether we like it or not. We all are destined to stand before the Creator to be given full account of all of our deeds in this world today whether we like it or not. This noble man with his noble deeds, the noble deeds many of us share with him will be brought before us on that day. Everyone who invests in such noble deeds whether through his investment organisation or through others or individually has the wisdom to build an bode where one will live for ever. What good is it to build a palace in this world which we all will have to leave behind one day? Do we ever think about it while engaged in the rat race for better and better and better of the wordly glamour even when it is achieved through unfair means? Do we ever show the wisdom to make our world a better place to live through fair means?
Some day, even this saint will die -- physically. But his spirit will never die.
Shame on people spreading lies about one of few persons Pakistan is proud of
I dont understand why this nation wants good people to die,,,,
Edhi Sahib is the only prominent Pakistani who does all social work without any greed and return. He enjoys a modest normal life and is loved by millions around the world. His objective has always been to help the poor and needy without any discrimination or return. Those who are nothing compared to Edhi Sahib are always afraid of his popularity and selfless work. Remember he was threatened and sent packing away from Pakistan? Those same elements have not given up and are still active against him. We love you Edhi Sahib and are proud of you. May God give you many more days to serve Pakistanis while keeping a low profile.
Zindabad Edhi sahib.
