RAWALPINDI:

A man died and two others were injured after a gas cylinder in a car exploded at a filling station in the Waris Khan area on Wednesday.

Police said that Mohsin, who hailed from Sargodha, was waiting in a queue at the gas filing station when a cylinder in the car in front of him exploded, killing him on the spot.

The police said that Safeer, a worker at the filling station, and the car’s owner, Mukhtar Ahmad, were also injured in the explosion.

“The blast caused a fire in the car and shrapnel flew back and hit Mohsin, who was in the car just behind, and killed him on the spot. A worker at the gas filling station and the owner of the vehicle were also injured,” Waris Khan ASI Ali Raza said.

The blast also damaged other cars in the queue, the police said, adding that a fire truck quickly reached the spot and doused the fire.

The police said that the vehicle has been impounded to determine if the driver had a valid fitness certificate. The injured were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital and the deceased to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
