KARACHI: Former president Pervez Musharraf's lawyer Farogh Nasim submitted a reply at the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday, Express News reported.
The 13-page reply claimed that cases against the former president were on the basis of political grounds and therefore Musharraf's name should be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL).
The reply reportedly added that the government had not been able to prove anything in the cases against him.
Yesterday, the federal government had raised objections over the SHC’s authority to accept a petition regarding the removal of Musharraf’s name from the ECL.
In response to the high court’s notice, the government had strongly opposed allowing Musharraf to leave the country on any ground and stated that he is accused in other high profile cases and may therefore be awarded capital punishment.
The government had also contended that allowing Musharraf to go abroad for treatment would be a violation of Article 25 of the Constitution as adequate medical facilities are available in Pakistan.
The reply had stated that Musharraf’s name was included on the ECL first on April 5, 2013 by the federal government and that the Supreme Court on April 8, 2013, had also directed the federal government to place his name on the ECL.
The petitioner had approached this court (SHC) after more than a year against the order dated April 5, 2013. The instant petition was therefore hit by the ‘doctrine of laches’ and the same was therefore liable to be dismissed with costs.

Vindictive prosecution on flimsy charges continues while the Country burns.
Our rulers of today discourage their family members and their dear ones to get treatment locally and prefer to send them abroad even for minor treatments all at the cost of public money. What a discrimination....... the natural bald headed people proceeding abroad for hair transplant ....!!!!!!
Infact its Musharraf lawyers who have been, and are still, making flimsy claims for avoiding appearance in the Court on different grounds. Musharraf fled from Islamabad Court on 18th April 2013. The entire world saw this escape live on tv. Undetonated bombs have been found on his route at least 3 times to avoid Court appearance. On 2nd January 2014 this drama man diverted his entourage towards AFIC and enjoyed 5star VIP facilities in the free hospital on taxpayers expense for 3 months. Now he is coming up with another lame excuse of having back pain for which he has to go abroad for treatment!
Ha. On the one hand they do everything to delay cases by filing nonsensical motions, and now they say that govt unable to prove anything. Someone should remind them that the trial is yet to begin.
Medical facilities in Pakistan!!!!! I have never seen Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif or any General getting admitted in any Pakistani hospital, and look at the justification lolz.....
