While addressing the Pakistan envoys' conference, Nawaz claimed that efforts were being made to resolve the energy crisis. “Over 2,600MW of electricity has been added to the national grid and more is expected later this year.”
“In fact our ambition is to go beyond meeting our current shortfall which explains why we plan to add 21,000MW additional power to the national grid in the next 10 years,” he continued. This would be more than what the country has been able to generate in the past 65 years.
Nawaz is also due to reach Karachi later today to address the current law and order situation of the city and will launch two coal-based power plants at Port Qasim. The two projects have a collective capacity of 1,320MW.
Minister of Water and Power Khawaja Asif and Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali will also accompany him.
Ali had unveiled on May 5, a list of upcoming power projects to be inaugurated by the premier seeking to resolve the energy crisis.
The envoys' conference is being attended by Pakistan’s ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. The prime minister also discussed his efforts to maintain peaceful relations with neighbouring countries.

Corrected Title: Plan to add 21,000MW of electricity to Raiwind
21,000MW for 180 million people means an average of 117 watts per person. So, 10 years from today, every Pakistani citizen can look forward to an additional 100W lamp in his home. Now that's what I call development vision! Perhaps that is the reason for announcing it in a conclave of diplomats. In any primary school, the students would have done their calculation well before the speech ended.
Well, this claim would be achieved much earlier as the Pakistani engineer who ran the car on water has made yet another discovery of getting free electricity direct from the sky.
Import from India today ,why wait ten years ?
Dear PM, i had planed to visit Karachi in June 2014 to meet my relatives, i think i will have to postpone that trip to June 2024. Because when i will come back in June 2024, hopefully i will have electricity BUT by then i wont be having many of my relatives left alive. Can you please do us a favor, can you please leave the PM seat which does not belong to you. You were not voted by real voters but by fake votes. So please resign. I beg you sir.
Just wondering how much relieve would current addition of 2600 MW would give this summer. Is it enough to bring load shedding down to 6 hours? or may be 8 hours?
so he is planning to stick around for 10 more years shoot we are doomed :/
Pakistan is not short of power generation capacity. The problem is the cost of production because the contracts with IPPs are loaded in their favour and they get paid Rs. 26 per unit. The solution lies in producing cheaper power, bringing power theft to an acceptable limit and collecting bills. May be PM should set a personal example and pay his Ittefaq Foundry bills first. I get suspicious whenever a new project is announced because of the kick back culture!
Lol the country's population is going to double in the next 10 years so the load shedding will still be a part of our lives. Jeayy Load shedding
Too damn late. This is your third tenure. Not a man of Vision. This problem should have been identified in the earlier Tenures.
In nut shell...Great talkers r not Great Doers
Pakistan's electricity crisis is not due to lack of power generation capacity but an inability to afford that power i.e. fuel is far too expensive and gas is in short supply. There are enough diesel plants in Pakistan to ensure that there is no load shedding in any part of the country. however that is a cost no one is willing to bear neither the power generator, neither the regulators and/ or government, neither the distribution companies and neither the consumer. Everyone wants a shortcut and everyone wants to steal/ swipe electricity for free.
A total lie.
I am sure things will get better in Pakistan in 20 years time(As Nawaz govt is promising since last 6 years ) now I am 55 I hope I would be dead to see that wonderful Pakistan in 20 years. But What I have seen things are getting more worst in Pakistan in Last 20 years rather to better ,, ,, ,, Nawz and are selling us dreams. Have they punished any one how is responsible for Wapda mismanagement??? no bcz there was no any mismanagement indeed great things they did.
like anp and ppp this is your last terms sar g..
With the amount of promises Pakistan has heard it should be able to power then rest of the world by now.
10 YEARS..................means this generation still has to sacrifice for next 10 years.
He tends to make 'jazbati' statements, as we saw pre elections. I think he is doing this again haha
What the country wants to know is how much of that 21,000 MW is coming in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 year. This is what the people want to know.
Shut the power supply to his home and I bet the job will be done in 10 months....
The PM has solved the country's load-shedding, water, education, health and every social and economic problem in under one year just by talking in FUTURE TENSE. What an outstanding statesman with vision! WOW!
He must be day dreaming.
So dear Pakistani brothers, if you want electricity, you have to vote PML-N to power for the next two terms too.
The lack of understanding is the root cause of power/energy deficiency in Pakistan; Pouring more energy doesn't mean it will resolve the ever increasing demand of energy/power. The Govt. most think and must take honest step to limited and control the problem further enter into the collapsing stage. Here few points;Pakistan think about the efficient use of energy/power, Efficient system of power consumption and monitoring must be implemented, all the supply lines and station must be properly maintained and their staff monitor. In most of the cases the WAPDA staff are involved in stealing power, reduction and over dues of billings. A task force must be established to regularly monitor the staff and workers. All the old staff must be remove or transfer to minimize the loss. Billing recorded must be properly maintained, monitor and billing must be organized as per family average consumption. Non- of the Govt. institution, organization, individual exempted from billing charges. At all Union Council a proper monitoring, complain and response force should be introduce for the proper functioning. The loos, miss-use and lack of proper system is the great cause of deficiency in the system as compare to the required demand. Until and unless the whole system not reviewed to control the power/energy crisis is impossible. WAPDA and all main supply companies and their staff are big culprit of power loss, stealing, no billing and collapse of the system.
But your government is there on rigged elections. You have no moral authority to be the PM of the country.
Cut the line losses if you dare
You wont need 21000 megawatt
Thank you Prime Minister, but I think you would not be at same position after ten years
0h so he plans to stick for another 5 years .. another trick played well for the next elections! LOL
SO much Planing going on. I still remeber when Mr Shaauket was PM of Pakistan we used to see vision 2015 in news papers a lot about Wapada generation and working capacity. There was always a great pictures were drawn and shown to pubic that they keep doing for almost year. Please give us more dreams we are used to live with dreams only , Thanks Mr SHarif
