“Fresh leadership will come to the front through intra-party elections,” said former provincial president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Anwar Saifullah Khan. He lauded the party’s decision of dissolving the current divisional and district zonal organizations.

Last Friday, the party dissolved its district and divisional level units, setting the stage to select new office bearers as soon as possible.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Saifullah shared after the party’s failure in the general elections, he held himself responsible and thus resigned last year.

He said some of the old party members had lost interest in the party and rifts had also surfaced among political workers which resulted in PPP’s poor performance in the general elections.

Saifullah said party workers who unite other workers should be made office bearers. All new positions should be filled after the consent of party workers, he added.

“Intra-party elections are not unique for the PPP as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto both conducted the exercise and believed heavily in it.”

He ensured his complete support to PPP Provincial President Khanzada Khan and said he will do whatever is asked of him in the interest of the party.
