VEHARI: Six labourers in Vehari lost their lives when they drowned while trying to clean a well on Sunday, Express News reported.

Three other labourers were rescued.

According to Express News, the two labourers who descended the well to clean it called for help, upon which seven others went in to help them.  None of them, unfortunately, could overcome the water pressure.

Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and successfully rescued three individuals and recovered six bodies.

According to sources, the doctor at the Rural Health Centre (RHC) refused to attend to the rescued individuals, upon which residents of the area gathered outside the doctor's residence, burning and damaging property at the residence in protest.

Vehari District Police Officer (DPO) arrived at the scene and tried to control the angry crowd.

The bodies of the deceased and the injured have been transferred to Mailsi DHQ hospital.
