KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) dismissed on Tuesday the bail plea of two suspects in a case pertaining to extortion. The ATC-III dismissed the bail application of the suspects, Muhammad Furqan and Muhammad Waseem.

In December 2013, the accused had allegedly threatened the complainant, Muhammad Yasin, over the phone to pay Rs500,000 as extortion, or his three sons would be killed.

Following the threats, Yasin had registered a complaint with the Eidgah police who had managed to arrest the suspects from New Karachi on December 26, 2013. A case, No.246/13, under sections 384, 385 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997, was registered at the Eidgah police station.

In the bail application, the counsel for the suspects said that the men were 'innocent' and had been falsely implicated in the case, adding that the complainant has also submitted an affidavit stating that he would have no objection if the suspects were released.
