UMERKOT: A large number of peasants from parts of Umerkot district staged a rally on Wednesday to demand their basic rights. Due to the drought in Thar, crop production has been badly affected and people are falling sick due to malnutrition, they said. District Umerkot comprises both desert and irrigated areas, where people are suffering from hunger, poverty and diseases mainly due to lack of assets, resources and basic facilities, like education and healthcare. The rally culminated at the Umerkot Press Club. It was organised by the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research and Sindh Land Reforms Movement in collaboration with Women Action Forum and Sami Foundation.
