PESHAWAR: Sardar Mehtab Abbasi has emerged as the forerunner for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor slot, Express News reported on Friday evening.

If appointed by the President of Pakistan, Abbasi, the opposition leader in K-P Assembly, will replace Engineer Shaukatullah Khan as the new Governor of K-P.

Earlier, it seemed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Central Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was in the lead for the race for K-P’s governorship, while Major (retd) Amir, part of the four-member committee government formed to negotiate with the Taliban, was also in the running.

However, it emerged on Friday that Abbasi's name is most likely to be recommended to the President by the Prime Minister.
