KARACHI: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to shift their training camp for the World Twenty20 from Karachi to Sri Lanka. The Board was advised by Afghanistan foreign ministry not to travel to the city due to security concerns.
“Our foreign ministry feels that the security conditions in Karachi are not ideal and travelling to the city in the prevailing situation can be a risk for the Afghan players” Chief Executive Officer of ACB Dr Noor told The Express Tribune.
The official added that the Board was keen on training at Karachi’s Arabian Sea Country Club where the facilities and conditions were similar to Bangladesh.
“Karachi was the ideal venue and cost effective too,” he said. “Unfortunately, we have to move the camp away which is disappointing for us.”
Dr Noor added that the training program was partially funded by the Asian Cricket Council, yet they had no say in the venue.
