SHABQADAR:

A police mobile van was targeted by a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday, when the vehicle was on its way to Kangra Adda in Shabqadar bazaar, Charsadda, said police official Nasir Khan.

Khan said the bomb went off just as the police van was passing by, but fortunately no casualties were reported. Police cordoned off the area following the incident and initiated a search operation. However, no arrests had been made till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, Frontier Constabulary (FC) forces confiscated urea fertilizer from shops in Lakkaro bazaar, Mohmand Agency. Subsequently, shopkeepers protested and shut the bazaar down.

Leading the protest, Gul Shah and Lal Badshah said urea was crucial for crop growers, and shopkeepers had stocked it for that purpose. However, they were disallowed from doing so. They added the bazaar will remain closed in protest the next day as well.

Selling urea fertiliser in the tribal areas is banned as it is used in making IEDs, commonly used by militants. The government, however, does provide the fertiliser to farmers free of cost, to keep a check on terrorist related activities.
