President’s Trophy: Gul, Adil impress with five-wicket hauls

Fast-bowlers help HBL to first-innings lead against PQA.

Fast-bowlers Umar Gul and Ehsan Adil picked up five-wicket hauls to help HBL take a 67-run first-innings lead on day one of their President’s Trophy sixth-round match against PQA at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.


PQA won the toss and opted to bat first, but the decision backfired as they bundled out for a paltry 65 in just 19.5 overs. Tabish Nawab top-scored with 24, while Gul claimed a five-for by conceding just 12 runs. Ehsan gave away 48 runs for his scalps.

In reply, HBL made 132 for four with Shan Masood unbeaten on 51 while Aftab Alam made 50. Mohammad Sami took two wickets.

Sadaf takes eight in NBP rout

Left-arm medium pacer Sadaf Hussain claimed eight wickets to help KRL bowl out NBP on 158 in 52 overs at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

KRL opted to bowl first and the decision worked in their favour as Sadaf bowled six maiden from his 17 overs while conceding just 50 runs. Kamran Akmal made a 103-ball 71 with 14 boundaries.

KRL then had made 87 for one before day end.

Elsewhere,Yasir Hameed carried his good form from the Twenty20 event into the first-class competition by scoring a fluent century as ZTBL were bowled out for 235 in 63.5 overs against UBL.

Hameed made 108 off 144 deliveries, hitting three sixes and 11 boundaries as Wajihuddin picked up three wickets. UBL were 74 for two at close of play.

In other matches, Wapda scored 274 for three against PTV courtesy of Adnan Raees (94) and Riffatullah (81), while SNGPL were 252 for five against SBP.
