General Ashfaq Nadeem appointed as Chief of General Staff

This was announced by COAS General Raheel Sharif, making this his first official decision as Army Chief.

RAWALPINDI: Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem was appointed Chief of General Staff on Friday, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed in a statement.

This was announced by the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, making it his first official decision.

Prior to his promotion, Nadeem served as DG Military Operations for two years. He has also served as Commander of the Infantry Division and was at the forefront of the successful Swat operation.

"He replaces Rashad Mahmood as chief of general staff," reported Express News correspondent Ahmed Mansoor.

Mahmood took charge as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJSC) on Thursday. He has been termed the operational and intelligence eyes and ears of former COAS General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani.

So he may be a competant person but a junior should not be given a position where he has to deal with seniors (Corps Commanders).
