PESHAWAR:

Basic life support (BLS) training was organised at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on Saturday to create awareness among the community and doctors about on-site first aid administration.

A batch of fifteen candidates was trained in BLS techniques, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A written test was conducted after a pre-test. Most candidates performed well in the written test highlighting the success of the course.

Professor Dr Saima Gillani, Dr Ambar Ashraf, Dr Akbar Shah and Dr Asad Maroof facilitated the BLS course.

At the end of the session, KTH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Professor Dr Inayat Shah Roghani said such courses are of great importance in the light of increasing militancy in the province, adding KTH is the first hospital to organise such a course in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Dr Roghani said following an emergency many patients die before reaching the hospital therefore the aim of the training exercise was to reduce casualties by training individuals to administer first aid on the spot.

He further added hundreds of participants will be trained in the coming few months.

“Given the current situation of K-P and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas, it is important for people to learn to provide first aid,” said Dr Roghani.

The CEO expressed hope the trainees would coach more people, making the training a continuous process, which will benefit more people and help save more lives.

Dr Roghani then awarded certificates to participants and directed them to utilise the training to serve people.
