ISLAMABAD:

The complaint centre established by the Sanitation Directorate of the CDA to record public grievances regarding non-removal of remains of sacrificial animals received 12 complaints during the Eid holidays.

An official deputed at the centre informed The Express Tribune that the complaints were related to untimely removal of remains of slaughtered animals from different vicinities.

During Eid, the CDA collected and disposed of the remains of over 55,000 sacrificial animals, said a statement issued by the public relations directorate of the CDA. The number is 10,000 less than last year’s collection and disposal figures.

The collected remains of animals are disposed of at 29 deep ditches dug in 17 different locations around the city.

Around 2,500 workers including cleaners, supervisory staff, contractors and their staff took part in the three-day cleanliness operation. More than 100 vehicles including tractor-trolleys, compactors, and dumpers were also used.

Rawalpindi

Meanwhile, the district solid waste management (SWM) Rawalpindi removed 7,000 tonnes of animal remains from different city areas.

SWM District Officer Dr Mazhar said that 1,553 sanitary workers with 65 vehicles had been engaged to dispose of the remains at the Lohsar landfill site.

He said that municipal official officials including the Rawalpindi division commissioner supervised the entire operation. Dr Mazhar said that a large number of push carts were also used to remove the garbage.
