Around 2,000 additional policemen have been deployed in the city for Eid security.
Police have identified 160 locations where Eid congregations will be convened, including eidgahs on Charsadda Road and in Hayatabad, a police official told The Express Tribune on Tuesday, adding security arrangements have been finalised for these locations.
“Walk through gates will be installed in mosques to scan people while police in uniform and plain clothes will also be deployed,” he said, adding the police force will patrol roads while the bomb disposal squad (BDS) will check major eidgahs in the city before prayers.
“Entry of vehicles has been banned completely in the main markets of the city as a precautionary measure,” said the police official. In addition to the deployment of the 2,000 policemen, elite force and Frontier Reserve Police will remain on alert during the two days of Eid along with the presence of the regular police force.
He said all the leaves of policemen have been cancelled and they have been asked to ensure their presence on duty.
