PESHAWAR: A report ordered by an election tribunal concludes Sardar Hussain, the runner up for PK-90 Chitral II in the general elections, is now leading the constituency by one vote. The report was commissioned after the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate petitioned for a recount.

Compiled by a commission comprising Joint Provincial Election Commissioner (retd) Shafiq Ahmad and Riaz Ahmad Khattak, it lays out fresh results after recounting postal ballots and rejected votes.

According to the recount, Sardar Hussain polled 10,859 votes while All Pakistan Muslim League candidate (and winner) Ghulam Muhammad polled 10, 858 – one less than Hussain. Muhammad had earlier won PK-90 by seven votes, polling at 10,848.

The commission counted votes in the presence of the candidates, polling agents and district returning officer. It also tallied the number of votes won by other candidates in the running for this constituency.

PK-90 is the only provincial assembly seat won by the APML in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the general elections.

The commission will submit its official report to the election tribunal at the next hearing of the case set for October 22.

Parvez Musharraf is trying to flee from Pakistan after his bail in Akbar Bugti case. And his party APML is going to loose the only provincial assembly seat won in K-P. What a setback!
