ISLAMABAD:

The capital’s civic agency has chalked out a comprehensive cleanliness plan for Eidul Azha, a spokesperson for the agency said on Wednesday.

All the concerned formations of the authority, especially the sanitation directorate, have been directed to make all out efforts for collection and disposal of entrails and offal of sacrificial animals.

The officials of the Sanitation Directorate will work around-the-clock in three shifts. Leaves of the entire sanitation staff have been cancelled, the spokesperson added.

For effective implementation of the plan, he said, the city had been divided into four zones: Zone-I consists of sectors F-5, F-6, G-5, G-6, Blue Area, Saidpur Village and Bari Imam. Areas in Zone-II are Faisal Masjid, sectors E-7, F-8, F-7, G-7 and G-8. Similarly, Zone-III consists of F-10, F-11, Golra, G-9, G-10, G-11, and G-13. While Zone-IV covers sectors H-8, H-9, H-10, H-11, I-8, I-9, I-10, I-11, Islamabad Highway, Model Village Humak, Shahzad Town, Rawal Town and Margalla Town, he said.

Chief sanitary inspectors would monitor each zone in the city, he added.

At least 29 deep ditches would be dug out at 17 locations in the city for burying offal and other wastes. Besides, two emergency cells have been established at the Sanitation Directorate and at the Transport Cell of the Sanitation Directorate in Fire Headquarters, which would be functional round-the-clock.

During the emergency operation on the occasion of Eidul Azha, 2,500 sanitation workers including cleaners, supervisory staff, contractors and their staff, and officers will participate in the operation.

The workers would be equipped with more than 100 vehicles, tractors and trolleys, compactors, trucks, dumpers and bulldozers.

Lime powder would be sprinkled on garbage trolleys and sacrificial places.

The spokesperson said this year plastic bags would be distributed among the residents of Sector G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10 and I-10 for collection of the offal and remains of sacrificial animals which would be handed over to the sanitation workers for dumping.

The civic agency chief, Nadeem Hassan Asif, has asked the people not to throw offal and other waste material of sacrificial animals in the green areas and keep them in front of their houses so that sanitation workers can easily pick and dispose of them.

The residents can register their complaints for collection and disposal of wastes at the Sanitation Directorate helpline 1334 and telephone numbers 051-9213908, 051-9203216 and 051-9211555.
