According to a report published by The Hindu, the missile has a strike range of 350 kilometers. At around 9:14am, the missile was test fired in salvo mode from a mobile launcher.
“The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the total launch activities were carried out by the specially formed SFC and monitored by the scientists of (Defence Research and Development Organisation) DRDO as part of practice drill,” sources said.
“The missile trajectory will be tracked by the DRDO radars, electro-optical tracking systems and telemetry stations located along the coast of Odisha,” they said.
“The downrange teams on board the ship deployed near the designated impact point in the Bay of Bengal will monitor the terminal events and splashdown,” they said.
The Prithvi II missile was inducted into India’s Strategic Forces Command in 2003 and is the first missile developed by DRDO under India’s IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1000 kilograms of warheads according to The Hindu.
On September 14, India successfully test-fired for a nuclear-capable missile that can reach Beijing and much of Europe.

Good joke maan, Pakistan economy can't survive more than 15 days if a full fledged war breaks out with India. But Indian economy is capable of lasting 45 days in such situation. This is not my opinion, but by a famous economist from US.

My brother is married to a Pakistani lady who hails from Sukkur, Sindh and my cousin is married to my Pakistani bhabhi's sister who is also from Sukkur. Both of my uncles are married to Pakistani ladies. One Aunt is from Mardan,KP and other is from Kasur, Pakistan. In fact, I've seen many Indians in US getting married to Pakistani ladies. Since most Pakistani males are jobless, poor and often tagged as Terrorists in US. Also, my Pakistani aunty from Mardan once told me that, Pakistan is like a Pandemonium and Pakistanis will do anything to get out of Pakistan or to change their identity.SAD. Pakistan, on one hand, is on the process of self-destruction due to rising extremism & incompetent leaders, and on other hand, it is the fastest nuclear weapons producing country in the world. Instead of those weapons ever getting used on India, there is a higher chance of talibanis getting hold of them to cause mass destruction in Pakistan itself. Secondly, you have slightly misunderstood or are misinformed. Most of the nuclear weapons produced by Pakistan are of 'tactical' type. They do not cause destruction on a larger scale and are used on a battlefield to quickly stop/kill/prevent advancing enemy soldiers. Using/having large number of tactical nuclear weapons will not destroy whole of India in any way. At the most, they will do damage over maybe 5% of the country, if used in large numbers. Pakistan's stockpile of 'strategic' nuclear weapons is not that big (and not reliably tested either on missiles, as per couple detailed articles). Also based on given data on those reports, it is assumed it will take Pakistan atleast 25 strategic nuclear bombs to cause major damage to Indian economy to put it on a backfoot, whereas 10 such bombs from Indian side would be enough to totally destroy Pakistan. Also, Pakistan has 'proudly' declared its test results and the 'potential' of its nuclear bombs to the whole world. As per that data, Pakistan's nuclear weapons have yield of between 15 to 25 kilotons, similar to the ones thrown on Hiroshima & Nagasaki by the US long time ago. Based on the Japanese 'count', it could be assumed such bombs have the potential of killing 80,000-1,00,000 people per bomb. It is a big number but compared to a population of 1.2 billion, its not that big. India on the other hand, hasn't disclosed anything about capacity of its nuclear weapons and stockpile. And so you can only rely on rumours regarding Indian nuclear weapons and make jokes on how "terribly bad" they are. Lets not discuss who will cause how much damage to which country using nuclear weapons. Pakistan had nuclear weapons during Kargil. It could not prevent embrassment for the Pakistani establishment when Nawaz had to run to US and declare a unilateral ceasefire when Indian Army started retaliating and taking back its territory.

That is your own concocted nonsense of course, I wonder where you met such self-proclaimed Pakistanis. although it doesn't really matter, because I have met several real indians from places like Kashmir and Punjab (khalistan supporters) and they have told me they wished they were Pakistanis. I know a Sikh man here in UK who's father was a Khalistan activist and had lived for some years in Lahore (he spent other years of his life in exile in Canada & USA). He reportedly also attained Pakistani citizenship.
Anyway, back to the topic, @India, missile defense systems are not 100% reliable, there are only a few missiles you can stop. You can't stop all missiles, accuracy is never 100% foolproof. In the event of nuclear war, much of India can be annihilated. You can't even stop 12 men from causing mayhem in your Mumbai hotels or a few dozen men from taking your whole Kashmir hostage and here you talk of preventing barrages upon barrages of nuclear missiles all raining into your direction.

Its foreign exchange is almost $300 billion as compare to Pakistan's $15 billion or even less. India's economy though slowed down but now one of the worlds leading. I have been to India and I am saying this from personal experience. India's nuclear arsenal isn't expanding at a rate as fast as Pakistan's anyway and the shields are practically useless in the event of nuclear war. There are only so many missiles you can down before another rain of long-range nuclear missiles comes your way. The shield is not a guarantee of protection. In the event of nuclear war, most Indian major cities would be wiped out and India would be left like a wasteland.
Also one more thing.. You can't just launch nuclear missiles , there are doctrines which both nations are aware of and then there are intelligence agencies providing alerts of nuclear usage and then there is big brother US and UN monitoring the situation.
Dear all defense experts..The missiles are for deterrence and not offense. Today the real war is fought at economy front. This missile is aimed to high maneuverability, precision and flexibility. In real war what matters is the maneuverability, speed and precision of the missile and not the range. Also these missiles are not targeted for Pak, they are targeted for China. We in India are more concerned of China than Pak. China is huge in terms of tech, economy and soft power. India needs to compete with them on all fronts.
This is about the time of the year when Pakistanis are suddenly worried about South East Asian stability, public toilets in India and such important issues.

Trying to be "even" to India with regards to anything India does, or giving up old anti-India policies and focussing on own internal development? Pakistanis are quite aware of it and they are quite concern about it. @Someone: FYI, this is a short range tactical battlefield missile to wipe out entire enemy army. That is why the range is short with acute precision with fault tolerant softwares. There is a difference in short - medium - long range missile and their use as either Tactical or Strategic purpose. FYI, India has already inducted Agni 3 Missile which has a range of 3500 km, but this range can be increased to 5000 km by reducing the payload of the warhead and is capable of engaging targets deep inside neighbouring countries. Unlike Pakistan, India doesnt name its weapons after warriors. Prithvi means Earth in Hindi. India's other missile names are: Agni (fire), Akash(Sky) Sagarika(Sea), Nag(snake) etc. etc.
Had there been the motive we wud have missiles named: Shivaji, Rana Pratap, Laxmi etc. etc.

Its amusing to see how the indo-pak war mentality reflects in the comic naming of their weapons. Pakistan names its missiles on the historic war lord kings and so does india. Now what Ghouri or Prithvi of the past has to do with modern day India or Pakistan. Imagine Britain naming its missiles as "Richard the crusader" or "Elizabeth 2". I think we should stop getting afraid from each other and get in pace with rest of the world. I bet the Ahinsa believing Gandhi ji or the secularist Mr Jinnah never wanted the two countries to relate in the manner they do nowadays. Rather Mr Jinnah vision a relationship same as USA and Canada between pak and india. But again its easier said than done.
Do not worry. If and when the time comes, hopefully never, we have enough nuclear arsenal to turn India into a wasteland, and ofcourse ourselves too. So cheer up! Be happy!!
India projects its image as a soft power, in actual India has most cruel objectives. It’s the 17 missile test by India of Prithvi – II, what India wants to show here? If they do not have enough knowledge or trained man power to handle such technology, then India should not develop such adventures. One disaster and lives of people in India are at stake.
@Someone: - Sir, you are not in the habit of reading the news carefully as appears. India has on sep 14 test fired successfully a missile capable to reach entire Europe i.e. its range is 5000 KM and it is developed industriously by their scientists.
@MAyOr: - A democratic country with so many checks and balances in the system can not be mad of war. Democracy believes in peace and thereby progress. but simultaneously it needs to develop its own defence system too and missile testing is a part of such process. many other countries including USA and China do practices of mock war / drill. These practices can not tantamount to be war madness. wars are initiated where the army is independent of its civilian authorities and the global history has proved this correct.

India military buildup is the real nuclear threat that is festering in South Asia, especially Pakistan. Their dangerous race to annihilation won’t give them much.
