KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has appointed Olympic gold medalist Manzoorul Hassan as manager-cum-head coach of the national junior team that will fly to Malaysia later this week.

The position had been vacant ever since Rana Mujahid parted ways with the junior side following his elevation to the post of PHF secretary.

The team will feature in the Sultan of Johor Cup tournament that will be played in Johor Bahru from September 22-29.

“It was decided to send Hassan as the team’s head coach and manager,” the PHF secretary told The Express Tribune. “We are hoping for a good show from the squad under the former Olympian.”

Mujahid added that discussions were held on the team’s participation in next year’s Commonwealth Games (CWG). “The PHF wants the Pakistan Sports Board to resolve the matter [issue of parallel Pakistan Olympic Associations] as their participation in the event is must.”
