KARACHI:

The ministry claiming the existence of the Mohajir Republican Army is a conspiracy, similar to the Jinnahpur issue, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on Friday.

Addressing the party’s Rabita Committee and members at their headquarters Nine-Zero, Hussain appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the ‘hype’ created by the federal interior minister about the formation of such an outfit.

He said that the chief justice should conduct impartial investigations into the matter. “If proven to be true, action should be taken. But if it’s nothing more than a baseless claim, then a case should be initiated against those who want to divide communities and spread hatred in the country.”

The MQM chief said that the country’s literate and educated population should be questioned about the reality of the Mohajir Republican Army. Does the government want the (Mohajir) people to think on similar lines and form a force to protect themselves, asked Altaf Hussain.

He directed his parliamentarians to raise a voice against this in the National and Sindh Assemblies, adding that this issue was raised to divert people’s attention from other serious concerns.

Hussain told his party members that the MQM was falsely accused in the past of wanting to create the separate territory of Jinnahpur and therefore, an operation was conducted against them.

Anybody with a shred of honesty and sincerity should support an in depth investigation. This kind of allegation should be thoroughly probed and conclusive evidence be brought in public domain about the presence or otherwise of such an anti-state militia organization
