Former chairman Ogra Sadiq appeared before the court today after he was brought back to Pakistan from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
During the hearing, National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) investigator claimed that Sadiq had initially escaped to Afghanistan in a rickshaw
The former Ogra chairman accused the investigator of subjecting him to torture. The investigator Waqas Khan denied the charges.
The court asked Sadiq to appear before the court on July 23.
Background
The UAE authorities had handed over Sadiq to the Interpol, which last night gave his custody to NAB’s investigator Waqas Khan.
On June 19, 2013, former chairman Ogra had voluntarily surrendered himself in a one-page handwritten statement. The development came after an Abu Dhabi court ordered the deportation of Sadiq on June 3, with a 30-day period to file an appeal against the order.
Sadiq is the prime accused in the Rs82 billion scam of issuing new CNG licences, increasing gas tariff and allowing relocation of the functional stations.

he had escaped to afghanistan in rickshaw? Well said you cannot buy wisdom 'whether you have 82 billion rupees'
i wonder why he had choosen dubai to stay?
he should claim a NRO in court for himself
Very interesting, ET done a tremendous job by placing the two photographs, one in office and other in custody. It reminds me PTVs old comedy 50 50, wherein they show boxers before shower and after shower. Great ET, Great.
this all is drama by NAB to hide actual culprits, remember tauqir sadiq was sent on forced leave for not obeying the orders by high ups, and now all blame is put on him by those persons.
Let there be a fair trial and lets find who else is involved. One person cannot steal Rs.82billion on his own ... That's 2% of our entire GDP! Current Ramzan relief package is at Rs.2billion we could have paid for Ramzan Packages for the next 41 years with this money that's how big this amount is.
Let this not go away unpunished!
@sgrr: He doen not have the money. Its in the pockets of those who put him there. In the process, he must have also made few "bucks" for himself, but not as significant as "others" must have made. The question is whether the names of actual beneficiaries are going to be made public and they are brought to justice or not? Lets wait and see!!!......
Ishaq Dar said if defense budget is reduced by 50bn, the he will no increase GST. Why don't the government recovers that 82 billion and give relaxation to public? This is just one case..
@AYK: okay....but what about money ????.....1st talk about money then execution
@bilal: Yes he would be executed but along with go the poor investigator "Waqas Khan" (May Allah protect him) - you know who are the victims along with Tauqeer Sadiq. The duck sitting in the presidency would execute Sadiq before he involves him in the case
I guess he should be hanged as in a recent news, the Chinese railway minister was order death punishment for mis-using his powers and involvement in corruption. so similarly this person should be hanged to make an example for other people!
He will spend only 2 billion in court to close the case. the rest of life will be with 80 billions.
Is he the same Tauqir Sadiq? God is great
They say that there is a limit to everything.
But not a limit to human avarice, it seems.
execute him publically if he is a culprit
Looking at the recent photograph of the accused, I am unable to recognised the the same person is Tauqir Sadiq. Interestingly, the claim is that former chairman Ogra had voluntarily surrendered himself. If it is true he should reach himself to Pakistan, why waiting for the Pak Officials to come to UAE to arrest him. Whether he has no money to buy a ticket. Now I pray that courts could do some thing to recover from him and his companions Rs. 84 billion in time, other wise all exercise is a eye wash and futile. The country needs money.
