Patient management: Young doctors ask for additional PG seats at hospitals

There are only 382 seats for PG trainees at Mayo Hospital which have 2,400 beds, says YDA leader.

The Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Sunday asked Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to add 300 postgraduate seats for trainee doctors at Mayo Hospital.


YDA leader Dr Salman Kazmi said that according to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and College of Physicians and Surgeons criteria, there should be a PG seat for every three beds.

They said there were only 382 seats for PG trainees at Mayo Hospital which had 2,400 beds. They said 25 more paid slots were needed at the Lady Aitchison Hospital’s Unit 2, and 20 new slots at the following DHQ and THQ hospitals -- Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, Mian Munshi Hospital, Nawaz Sharif Hospital, Yakki Gate, Said Mitha Hospital, and Shahdara Hospital.
