KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in a bid to expand its network and shore up revenues, has decided to induct 12 narrow-body aircraft in its fleet, a company statement said on Tuesday.

The airline has already issued a tender to lease the aircraft. Speaking at the end of a two-day marketing conference, PIA Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik said the airline must increase its network to achieve better sales.

He asked the marketing department to prepare feasibilities for adding destinations and increasing frequencies on existing profitable routes.

“PIA should look into possibilities of starting flights to the African continent”, he said.

“In recent years Africa has emerged as a market for international airlines,” a PIA spokesman said. “PIA already has the experience of flying to countries like Kenya, Sudan, Libya and Tanzania.”
