Kings XI Punjab recorded a crushing eight-wicket win over Pune Warriors in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune yesterday.

After restricting the Pune side to a paltry 99 for nine in the 20 overs, Manan Vohra and Mandeep Singh ensured the win was complete without any hiccups as they took Punjab past the finish line in just the 13th over.

Vohra, named man of the match, made a 28-ball 43 and Singh contributed 31 off 26 deliveries as Punjab opened their IPL account with a massive win.

“I was very nervous before the start,” said Vohra. “There were butterflies in the stomach but as the match progressed and the wicket got better during the course of the innings, it became fine.”

Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist was pleased with the win. “It was an excellent start and everything went right from the opening over,” said the Australian. “We know how important run rates are towards the end of the tournament. The boys adjusted to the conditions very well.”
