KARACHI: Misbahul Haq’s change in approach – from being a risk-averse player to attacking batsman – continued as his unbeaten whirlwind ton helped SNGPL defeat KRL by four wickets in their President’s Cup One-day Tournament Group A match at the Multan Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Set a target of 279, Misbah’s 82-ball 119 that contained four sixes and 13 boundaries made the chase earier as SNGPL completed the job in the penultimate over. Azhar Ali also played a handy knock of 79.

Earlier, KRL made 278 for eight in their 50 overs as Mohammad Yaseen (63), Shoaib Minhas (59) and Saeed Anwar Jr (59) struck half-centuries.

In the other group match, NBP beat ZTBL by six wickets courtesy a 125-run fifth-wicket stand between Hammad Azam and Umar Waheed.

Chasing 284, NBP won in 47.4 overs. Hammad made 74 not out, while Waheed scored a run-a-ball 59.

Earlier, ZTBL posted 283 for four in as openers Sharjeel Khan (87) and Hussain Talat (67) made a 153-run stand.

Hasan’s six-for snatches win for SBP

Khaqan Arsal’s 75 and Saad Surkhail 45-run knock kept UBL in the hunt, but their dismissals made the job easier for SBP.

I donot understand why media and people are after Misbah and his captaincy. We must understand that continuity always brings the success and after a long time we got a skipper who is educated, non-scandalous and who has maintained good atmosphere in and out of dressing room. No matter we loose or win, atleast our team is not labelled a bunch of hooligans on tours abroad. We have the example of South African tour where after a white wash the team regathered its wits to compete considerably good in t20 and one day series. Donot worry Misbah, atleast you are my hero.

Lately Misbah is the only solid bat in Pakistani side. Yet some want to see him out. Of course he should be out when we find a couple of youngsters who prove their worth.
