KARACHI: Barely a week after former PPP stalwart Nabil Gabol joined the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he was added to the central executive council of the party.

The decision was announced by MQM chief Altaf Hussain during a telephonic address on Thursday.

Next Sindh CM

Talking about the upcoming elections, Altaf claimed that the MQM would "surprise" everyone.

"In the next elections, MQM will form a government in Sindh."

The MQM chief added that hopefully Sindh's next chief minister would be an elected MQM member.

Deweaponisation

Altaf also announced that his party will cooperate with law enforcing agencies in a deweaponisation campaign in the country.

“MQM does not believe in the politics of bullet, but of ballot.”

The MQM chief added that his party wanted the entire country to be rid of weapons.

Now they need to find an appropriate constituency for him to contest from. Orangi Town will be a natural base for Mr. Gabol since it is where late MNA, and former Federal Minister Mr. Afaq Shahid Khan used to win for the PPP and also has more than a considerable supporters of MQM. Mr. Gabol cannot go wrong running from Orangi on MQM platform. Contesting from his former constituency of Lyari will show reckless boldness and will prove to be polarizing. I agree with other commenters that Nabeel could be an excellent Chief Minister and be a uniting force between Sindhis and other communities if an opportunity is given to him.
