ISLAMABAD:
Postal workers can expect some good news in the mail, after the minister for postal services informed the National Assembly that 250 new motorcycles will be provided to postmen working in different parts of the country.

Postal Service Minister Muhammad Umar Gorgaij informed the house that through the Universal Postal Union Quality Service Fund, 250 motorcycles will be provided to postmen in working in different parts of the country including Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The minister confirmed in response to a question from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Tasneem Siddiqui, who had sought details of the new motorcycles being given to postal workers.

Gorgaij informed the house that the ministry had already provided 1,362 motorcycles to postmen in different parts of the country, 961 of which were purchased through the Universal Postal Union Quality of Service Projects. “Funds are being arranged and after approval the motorcycles will be handed over to postmen within the next two months,” he assured the house.

He further informed the house that the ministry has also signed a Memorandum of Understating with the Bank of Khyber for the provision of motorcycles to postal staff on lease. Staff using such motorcycles for official duties will be given petrol and maintenance allowances according to the set criteria, Gorgaij added.

The minister also informed the house that the cases for upgrading postmen from BPS 11 to 14 have sent to the Establishment Division for approval.
