ISLAMABAD:

Panellists at a discussion on portrayal of women, on Wednesday, urged media outlets to follow a code of conduct and abstain from negatively projecting women parliamentarians.

Participants were speaking at the concluding session, “Portrayal of Women’s Leadership in Media”, of a three-day training workshop conducted on “Common Ground Media” for producers and presenters from 30 district and provincial radio stations.

They were of the view that media outlets and some of their anchorpersons were maligning women politicians instead of highlighting their struggle for higher ratings and profit.

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) Country Director Ammara Durrani said the propagation of stereotypes was hindering the development and empowerment of women in society.
