LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday admonished Acting Inspector General of Police Khan Baig for not recovering an 18-year-old girl abducted 18 months ago.

Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Imam Bibi, a resident of Pakpattan, seeking the recovery of her daughter, allegedly kidnapped by influential people.

IG Baig told the court that police were trying their best to recover the girl. This, along with the large contingent of police personnel accompanying the IG, irked the judge. “You have come here with a bundle of police officers, but have failed to recover this girl for the last year and a half,” he said.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the police had registered a case against eight persons, including Abdul Razzaq. He said that the accused had a lot of influence in the area and so the police were reluctant to act.

Abdul Razzaq’s counsel also appeared before the court and maintained that his client was innocent.

The judge recorded the statements of all parties and gave the police a two-week deadline to find the girl and produce her in court.
