RAWALPINDI:

The Taxila police on Wednesday arrested two men on charges of killing their father and later burning his body.

The murder came to light when people discovered a charred body lying in the police.

Sub Inspector Khaliq Dad, the investigation officer, said he traced the blood spots leading from the body to a house. Zahid Mehmood, 24, and Shahid Mehmood, 26, used to live in the house. They tried to leave after they saw the police coming.

The police team held them and took the keys to the house from them. Inside, they found more blood and part of the cotton used to burn the body.

Severe head injuries to the body indicated that the man was tortured, the post-mortem revealed.

A murder case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s younger brother, the police added.

Sub Inspector Dad said that the suspects were unemployed. Their elder brother told police that they were mentally unstable, but could not provide any medical evidence, he added.

He added that a medical examination of the suspects will be carried out to ascertain their mental wellbeing.

A senior police official said a property dispute in the area near Canal Town is at the heart of the crime.
