Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali believes Fernando Alonso will overcome his disappointment and will bounce back stronger next season, according to the BBC.

Alonso lost out on the drivers’ championship to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the last race of the season in Brazil. But Domenicali is confident the Spaniard will shrug off the heartbreak of losing the title.

“It is not easy when you do such an incredible season to lose in that condition,” said Domenicali. ”But the strength of a champion is to make sure that in this break you recharge and once again be the best.

“If you put yourself in his shoes, he knows he have deserved the championship. That’s without putting any negative words on Sebastian — he won and so he deserved that.

“But if you look at the way [Alonso] performed since the first race, he deserved to win the title. In the races I think he was the one that did more overtaking than anyone else. I think that’s why he was so down in that moment, as was the team. But he has the mental strength and fighting approach and I’m sure he will bounce back from this next season.”

Perez is ready: Button

Meanwhile, Jenson Button is confident that his new McLaren teammate Sergio Perez is ready to fill in the shoes of Mercedes-bound star Lewis Hamilton.

“There’s a lot of pressure but I don’t think he’s going to feel it,” said Button. “We’ve just got to let him do his thing. He’s going to have an important winter and we’ll see what he can do next year. But I think he’s proved that he has good speed and has a good understanding of a race car.”
