KARACHI:

Asian Champions Pakistan will take on Canada in the semi-finals of the 3rd Kabaddi World Cup on Wednesday after they thrashed Italy 66-20 in their last group C match yesterday.

Pakistan had rested talisman Lala Obaidullah – sidelined due to fever – as a precautionary measure ahead of key matches in the mega event. Despite their key player’s absence, the team eased past their opponents to top the group after having beaten Sierra Leone 52-12 and Scotland 61-21.

Coach Tahir Waheed said that he rested Obaidullah to ensure he was fully fit for the semi-final.

“Obaidullah is important to Pakistan’s chances if we want to win the world cup,” Waheed told The Express Tribune. “It would be great for us if we can get him to full fitness in the space of a couple of days. His presence remains a threat for the opposition. Canada are a strong side and we will need our best players against them.”
