‘Honour’ crime: Two women killed, body found in canal

Suspect had sister of helping his wife elope.

FAISALABAD: Two women were shot dead on Sunday over ‘honour’, Chak Jhumra police said. Police said that Muhammad Nazir’s wife, Shaiza Bibi had gone missing on Thursday.

Her father later registered a murder case against Nazir, who was arrested. On Saturday, she returned home and Nazir was released.

On his return, he shot his wife as well as his sister Parveen, who tried to protect Shazia.

Nazir fled away. Some relatives said that Nazir had suspected that his sister was having an affair.

They said Parveen had started living with her parents after her husband divorced her. They said when Shazia went missing he accused Parveen of helping her elope with some man. Police said they were looking for the culprit.

Elsewhere, in the city, the body of a woman was recovered from the Jhang Branch Canal in Langrana area on Sunday. Police said some passers-by informed them about the body of a woman, in her 20s, floating on the water.

It was pulled out and sent for a post-mortem examination.

After a closer observation, police said there were no apparent injuries on the body.

They, however, specualted that the women was killed and her body abandoned.
