Allama Iqbal’s 135th birthday to be celebrated

Exhibit at National Museum displays Iqbal's personal belongings, first edition of his poetic work, and photographs.

KARACHI:

An exhibition will be organised today at the National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi, to celebrate the 135th birthday of Dr Allama Iqbal.

His personal belongings, including his chair, umbrella, stick, turban, black gown, books from his personal library, the first edition of his poetic work and photographs will be put on display at the exhibition. It will start at 9am and finish at 5pm. The Sindh Madressatul Islam University and its affiliated institutions will remain closed on November 9.

The vice chancellor of the university, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, said that Iqbal was a great Muslim thinker and poet. “He preached tolerance, brotherhood, selflessness and made the youth aware of their role for the establishment of Pakistan,” said Shaikh. He added that the youth of should follow his ideology in order to gain a more developed and prosperous Pakistan. University and schools will reopen on Saturday, November 10.
