LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court served a notice on Monday on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition seeking disqualification of PML-N MNA Mohammad Salman Mohsin Gilani for ‘possessing a fake degree’.

Naseem Mahmood Hotiana, a defeated PPP candidate from NA-165, Pakpattan, filed the petition, saying that Gilani had contested the 2008 general elections on the basis of a fake degree. He said an inquiry conducted by the Higher Education Commission had proved his degree was a fake. He said a case had been registered against Gilani on ECP’s direction. He prayed to the court to invoke Articles 62 and 63 and direct the ECP to declare Gilani’s election void. The notices have been issued for the second week of October.
