KARACHI: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided a hand grenade manufacturing factory in Korangi area of Karachi on Tuesday, Express News reported. Senior Superintendent Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chaudhry Aslam led the raiding party.

According to initial reports, it is a private licensed factory owned by two brothers and was manufacturing grenades legally. However the factory was not operational since years as the two brothers were embroiled in a legal dispute over the factory.

The police have confiscated a large quantity of grenades, packed in crates, which are in custody at the Garden police station.

Express News correspondent Naeem Khanzada, citing sources, said that there was an FIR registered regarding 600 stolen grenades, after which the court ordered the police to carry out raids in this regard.

Earlier in April, Iqbal Hussain, the former owner of Ulbricht Pvt, a licensed ammunition factory which made Arges grenade, complained that nine out of 69 boxes sealed by an army inspector went missing.

“Roughly 10,000 to 15,000 grenades are missing,” he had claimed.
