FAISALABAD: An elderly man attacked the Jaranwala assistant commissioner with a walking stick on Friday after the latter adjourned hearing in his property case. Rao Farman Ali, 82, a resident of Chak 107-GB, was caught and handed over to the police. He was released later after his family submitted an application with AC Irfan Khalid stating that he was mentally unstable. Witnesses said Farman Ali, a retired employee of the Excise and Taxation Department, started cussing at the AC and attacked him as soon as the latter adjourned hearing in the case. AC Khalid later said he had taken charge of the office only two months ago. He said Farman Ali’s civil suit had been pending since 2005.
