Under consideration: Power tariff may rise 27 paisa per unit

According to petition, NEPRA will allow KESC to increase 27paisa/unit in power tariffs under monthly fuel adjustments.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on behalf of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has filed two petitions to increase the electricity tariff by 27 paisa per unit.


The hearing on the two petitions will be held on August 31 in Karachi. According to the petition, NEPRA will allow KESC to increase 27 paisa per unit in power tariffs under monthly fuel adjustments if the request is approved after the hearings in this regard.

Earlier, Nepra allowed KESC to charge Rs2.68 per unit on account of fuel adjustment charges for January to March 2012. KESC was permitted to collect the fuel adjustment charge which will be shown separately on the consumer bills of August and September 2012 on the basis of units billed for January to March. According to notifications issued on July 28, 2012, Nepra allowed KESC to charge Rs1.04 per unit for January, Rs0.04 per unit for February and Rs1.60 per unit for March.
