KARACHI:

Khurram Inam faces an uphill task against his professional rivals as he aims to avoid the wooden spoon in the skeet event that begins at the Royal Artillery Barracks tomorrow.

The two-day event is spread over five and includes individuals from the armed forces as they vie for an Olympic gold. The US’ Hancock Vincent, an armed-forces shooter, holds the world and the Olympics record and is among the favourites to win the event while a French police officer, Anthony Terras, with an Individual Qualification Score of 124, is also in the running for gold.

But Inam, who is taking part in his third Olympics, is adamant he will not get blown away ahead of the uphill task.

“These are the best professionals in the world,” Inam told The Express Tribune. “I can’t promise a medal but what I can put in an all-out effort to prove myself. Anything is possible tomorrow and it just depends on how well you perform on the day.”

However, the Pakistan shooter said his target was to finish in the top half.

“I am going with a realistic approach – aiming for a top-half finish and avoid the embarrassment of finishing at the bottom. I will also try to achieve my personal best.”

Inam added that he had acclimatised to the change in conditions.

“I did a lot of hard work back home and also the training here for long hours since I arrived has definitely helped me.”

Pretty strange that Pakistani Army claimed to be the most professional but they have not been able to contribute a single shooter for Olympics in Shooting events and also in the past their participation is Nill. Similarly Where is Pakistan Navy that could train some divers for Olympics and for water sporting events?. If Pakistan Army dont have a single shooter for Olympics then we should be ashamed that a strong 500,000 Approx Army cannot produce a single Sharp Shooter of Repute and that show their Professionalism and Priorities as well.
