RAWALPINDI:

The City District Government will establish 14 bazaars in the city during the month of Ramazan to provide fresh and quality eatables to the public.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued directives for setting up special bazaars during Ramazan.

Bazaars will be set up at Committee Chowk, Nawaz Sharif Park, Dhok Kala Khan, Chungi Number 22, Chohr Chowk and Liaquat Bagh.

Commodities will be available at subsidised rates, approximately 15 to 30 per cent lower than the open market.

A meeting chaired by Rawalpindi DCO Saqib Zafar will be held next week to determine the prices of certain products.

The meeting will be attended by traders, Revenue Department officials, merchant associations, flour dealers and butchers, according to official sources.

To ensure the availability of commodities at agreed rates, Revenue Department officers will be assigned the powers of magistrates to check the price of various items, an official of the government said.

These officers will monitor the bazaars and take action against price gougers, the official added.
