LAHORE:

The father of a girl who was allegedly raped has approached the court, claiming that the investigation officer (IO) had taken a bribe from the suspect to “protect” him.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sadiq Masud on Monday sought comments from the Mozang SHO, by June 12, on a petition seeking direction to police officials to conduct a “fair” investigation into the alleged rape of the woman by a bank manager.

Petitioner Mian Ali Imran submitted that IO Sub Inspector Khalil Cheema had, in his report, declared his daughter’s rape as consensual sex.

He alleged that the suspect had paid the official a Rs60,000 bribe.

He claimed that the police official was also pressuring him to reach a compromise with the suspect.

He said that the sub inspector had threatened him and told him that he (the IO) would declare the suspect innocent.

Imran told the court that he had met the CCPO, who, he said, had referred the matter to an SP.

The SP had then directed the investigation officer to proceed “in accordance with the law and to get a DNA sample of the suspect”.

The police official, claimed the petitioner, had not followed the orders.

He prayed the court to direct the respondents to conduct a fair inquiry.

Imran has nominated a man and a woman in the FIR registered at the Mozang police station for the rape of his daughter.

According to the FIR, his daughter met the woman two months ago and was promised a job at a bank. The woman, he claims, then called his daughter for an interview on April 19 and introduced her to a man who she said was her cousin. Imran claims that the man detained and raped his daughter.
