ISLAMABAD: Owing to differences between Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali, the parliamentary committee once again failed to reach consensus on the appointment of the chief election commissioner (CEC) at the Parliament House on Friday.

Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah chaired the meeting where lawmakers  decided to continue their deliberations on the nominations put forth by Gilani in its next meeting which will be held on June 5, 2012.

The committee unanimously called upon the media not to make any comments on the nominees under consideration before a decision was taken.

During the course of the proceedings, the committee considered the nominations forwarded by both Gilani and Chaudhry Nisar.

Senators Islamuddin Sheikh, Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq, Haji Muhammad Adeel, Arif Aziz Sheikh, MNAs Zahid Hamid, Khwaja Muhammad Asif and Tehmina Daultana attended the meeting.
