LAHORE: Local Councils Association Punjab (LCAP) has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging appointment of administrators by the provincial government and its failure to hold local government election.

The Association submitted that the government had amended the Punjab Local Government Ordinance (PLGO) 2001 appointed handpicked administrators. They said this was against the provision of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance and the Constitution.

He said the provincial government was duty bound to initiate the election process after the expiry of the local bodies but this had not happened. The petitioner prayed that the appointment of the administrators by the government be declared unlawful and the Punjab government be directed to notify the date of local government elections.

The Association said the Election Commission should also be directed to issue the schedule of the elections and the government should be restrained from using Citizen Community Board (CCB) funds and development funds of local governments.
