KARACHI: The 34th National Boxing Championship, which concluded in Lahore yesterday, was marred by controversy on the final day after Wapda’s Qadir Khan was initially declared the winner of the 60-kg category before a protest saw his opponent Nawaz Dad being awarded the bout. The protest followed claims of biased scoring before Nawaz was awarded the fight 15-12.
Meanwhile, Police’s Mohib Bacha won the 49-kg category, while Wapda’s Mohammad Waseem claimed the 52-kg event after his opponent, Abdul Waheed of PAF, retired hurt. Navy’s Samiullah won the 56-kg category, while Adnan of PAF won the 64-kg final.
