Forced marriage: Teenager reunited with parents

A teenaged girl who her abductor forcibly married was reunited with her parents, on Friday, after a district judge allowed her to return home. The court has ordered an inquiry into the incident.


Saima*, 13, was kidnapped from her home a week ago by Rohail, who solemnised nikah against her will, according to her lawyer, Sonia Kiran. Rohail had also abducted Saima’s parents and he married her against her will as a precondition for their release, the girl informed the district judge. A bailiff recovered the girl in a raid conducted at Malik Bashir’s house, a former union councillor in Mangal.

When the bailiff attempted to rescue Saima, Bashir, his son Rohail and Zamir tired to put up resistance, for which they have been arrested and a criminal case has been registered against them.

The district judge had appointed the bailiff on the counsel’s request The court allowed the girl to go with her parents and ordered inquiry into the abduction of girl.
