KARACHI:

The health department transferred the medical superintendent of Sindh Government Services Hospital, Dr Aslam Pechoho, and appointed Dr Muhammad Taufique instead.

Pechoho was transferred because he had differences with his seniors over new appointments at the hospital. Muhammad Nazeer Abasi, the president of Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association’s Karachi division, said that they had demanded from the health secretary to fill the vacant posts on merit and also ensure the implementation of the son quota. Two months ago, he alleged, the hospital held tests and interviewed candidates to fill 28 posts but the jobs were handed out on political basis. He warned of protests against the malpractice. However, Dr Taufique said that appointments were being made on merit.
